I have a lovely (if loud) duck that has officially gone broody. She's been sitting on her nest since Sunday, but was still laying eggs up until yesterday. Now that the eggs have stopped I'd say she's officially sitting on them. Right now, she's got 3 ceramic eggs and 1 real egg that she's sitting on. She's an unproven mother, so I don't want to shove a bunch of eggs under her only for her to become disinterested in sitting. She's also a Saxony, which I've only ever incubated myself as I've read that they aren't always the greatest at doing it on their own (though, better than Pekins!) My thought is that maybe I'll put 3 or four eggs in the incubator (I've got a few available to do this with) and replace the ceramic eggs with these towards the end of the incubation. This reduces the risk of losing viable eggs because she walks off the job after 3 weeks. Has anyone done this before? Any issues I should consider? Thanks!
