Well, the good news is that all twenty five of my chicks arrived healthy, including the extra chick that was sent for free. The bad news is that six hours later, one chick starting falling over on his back and not able to get up. I thought that he would be able to get up himself, but about an hour later, i found him dead. I'm so sad! What happened to him and how do i prevent it from happening to my other chicks?

Some just get there weak. Have you dipped all the beaks in water to show them how to get the water? You can also give them sugar water for a day or so to help them with their energy.

I wouldn't let it get you down. Losing a chick is a pretty normal occurrence. It's probably more unusual NOT to lose one or two...

I lost my first chick after having it for six hours. It was fine and then one hour later when a friend came to see them.....it was gone. Just looked perfect.

I have since lost 3 more. I will not do the day olds anymore.

we lost 1 3 days after it arrived. It was a packing peanut that arrived weak and with spraddle legs. We nursed it back to health and it was keeping up with all the other chicks and then up and keeled over 3 days later!

Anytime a chick seems to fall on its back alot, you should turn it upright because they can't really breathe well that way. It was probably too weak and you would have lost it anyway, though.
