Those houses do look great, but be careful to avoid cedar which is not good for chickens.

If I read right, many are pine. Some are insulated, too.

Pretty houses. Perfect for dogs. I like your taste.

Too small, too expensive for chickens.

For that kinda money you can build a nice chicken shelter, have money left over for fencing, feed, fixtures and to stock it with chickens.

You musta won the lottery or something, eh?

Maybe. I have only 3 hens. I am just finished converting a large dog house with an attached 10"x 10" foot run and they seem to love it. Thought with the free shipping and sale prices (some priced under 100 dollars), the houses might be of interest to or help for other small flock chicken owners...[IMG]

I saw the ones for $300-400, so your point is taken. Nice of you to share. Thanks and accept my apologies; Im coming off a little pissy this AM...

Even for $100, though, you can turn out a nice little chicken shelter, big enough for you AND 8-12 chickens.

I thought the prices were all over the place. The adorable ones in the $4,000 plus range are hysterical. Some of the plastic ones are really cheap but decent.

Elderoo, You never sound pissy. You have a lot of experience and wisdom. This just appealed to me, as a busy wife and mom with only a few chickens... sometimes ready made (or almost ) appeals to me, lol.

Quote:Elderoo, you have great ideas, but I have to say, for some folks, there is no time to putter and nor do they have the inclination, confidence or skill to build something. So some of these little coops at 100-200 plus seem decent if you don't want a redneck setup, and you work full time and only plan on having a few chickadees.

We just got a free doghouse which I am going to paint and cutesify. It is going to house a few of my new breeding marans (after the eggs arrive and hatch), away from the rest of the flock.

Quote:That was beautifully put and so gracious. I am sure these will appeal to some folks with small plots.

Elderoo is funny this morning. Wonder if he ate some of my fermented mulberries, like a couple of chickens did yesterday. High times!
