Goodbye Downy, We will miss you...

We just lost our favorite hen. She was a Polish chicken and as sweet as sugar. The only one out of 13 hens that you could pick up any time and would follow you anywhere. She even stayed perched on my foot when I harvested mint this fall. I think a weasel got her when we let them all out to free range Wednesday night. I didn't let out our rooster because he's started attacking me. What a big mistake that was!

I'm so sorry about Downy. Why did it have to be your sweetest girl? Unfair, but predators just do their thing. Chickens are so vulnerable to so many threats. Don't blame yourself; you would never have wanted anything like this to happen and just didn't imagine losing her. I'm sure she is in chicken heaven with all the goodies she can eat.

Poor Downy, I'm sorry for your loss.

We lost my favorite hen, Peaches, a bantam EE last week. She escaped the coop, didn't think too much of it. We have wild cats 'round here, and I guess they got her. I'm still so depressed, DH say's I'm nuts!
