Let's all share what chicken stories and episodes we've had!!
Alright I got one for ya'll!
Last summer I was testing to see if a chicken could hatch out a duck egg. One of my broody cochins didn't have a nest so I chose her, moved her out of the coop, gave her a nice little broody box and gave her a duck egg. I was so very proud of her because she was the first broody to have put up with being moved. About two weeks went by and I candled her egg just to discover that it was rotten, Yuck! I removed it, tried to give the broody hen a break but she insisted on still sitting so I gave her another egg. Take Two. Unfortunately the same thing happened with the next egg. I guess they just were not fertile. She still insisted that she wanted to sit. I tried to convince her otherwise but she won that argument. So I gave her two more duck eggs and this time they started to develop. Yipee I was so happy. About twenty days into the incubation a huge storm came and ,gulp, flooded the poor chickens nest! I drained the water and hoped and prayed that the eggs would still be okay but needless to say they were not. In about a week they were rotten and smelly and I had to take them away. My hen STILL wanted to sit. But she had lost so much weight and was getting sores that I made her stop. I let her have free run of the yard and gave her extra feed but boy was she ever mad!! I promise you I am not making this next part up!!! I would go into the chicken yard and sit down to talk to the birds and here would come that hen racing up behind me,she would stop behind me peer around my leg and look up into my face and once she verified that it was truly me she would bite the heck outa me and take off running and laughing!! This went on for a while. I ended up naming her Texas Spitfire 'cause I thought that was pretty fitting! Eventually she either forgot or got bored with biting me but I still get worried when she peers around my leg!!!
lolchickens can be sooooooooo funny and stupid!!
I know right!
I got another one if ya want it!
My family has a swingset with a bar about 5ft off the ground. Two of my chickens are Nutmeg, who is a Plymouth Partridge Rock, and Mithril(yes, LOTR fans) who is a blue cochin.
So one summer day I was letting my chickens roam around the yard, and I set Mithril on top of my swingset. She is at the bottom of the pecking order, and being higher than the others was very appealing to her. I was watching her smile and squack happily, when all of a sudden, Nutmeg, who is at the top of the pecking order(and is ALWAYS the boss), got envious and tried to fly up next to Mithril. FAIL!! She missed the bar by about 1.5ft and fell, tripping on the basket swing, then landed with a on the ground. She got up, dazed, and walked away, a little shocked. It was then that Mithril decided not to perch anymore, but the poor fat(fatfatfatfatfatFATFATFATFAT) bird couldn,t figure out how to hop down. so I helped her down. lolol
That's cute! And Funny! Love the way you told it too!
Not really a story story but I have this silkie rooster named Gorilla that has a problem seeing things.I think it's cause his hair is so long! I used to have another rooster named Igor, he was a bantam. Before Igor Gorilla would just be walking along and BAM run smack dab into something!! It was actually pretty funny! And I am ashamed to say sometimes I made him do it just to laugh! Well once Igor was introduced Him and Gorilla were best buds! Together they ruled the yard, young and old! And what was funny is that once Igor was around Gorilla didn't run into as much stuff! I swear he did Gorilla's hair in the mornings! What's more is that when Igor died.......Gorilla no longer had such grace! Back to stumbling around and running into stuff!!!!!!
awwwww, they must've been sweet chickens.
That is hilarious though!!!
Alright so back to your turn! This is fun I'm kinda surprised more people arent on here!
I know! tell your friends about it! make it more popular!
