After watching many episodes of American Pickers my intrest in making yard out of scrape metal has been rekindled. I plunged and bought a Lincoln AC welder. Just waitng for my outlet to be upgraded and get the rest of my equipment and I will be ARCing. The fun part is collecting the scrap....or junk. Anybody else into this. I would love to see stuff. I love seeing yard art but I can't make any. When you make yours, please post. I would love to see it. [IMG]

YES, show us! I have a welder, and a DH who is half motivated. Well, he likes to save junk, and tell me he is going to make something. Haven't seen anything yet...
I'm sure you can make some cash on the side.

I bought my husband a Plasma Cutter one year. I designed it, and we made a life-size steel silhouette of their dog that had passed away. It was their Christmas present.

I am not much into making art, but I would rather cut and weld than saw and nail. I have a Lincoln 225am ac/dc stick welder, a Miller 175 amp wire welder, and a Miller Plasma cutter. I also have my acetelene torches and abrasive chop saw. I have made several trailers, wood splitters, truck bumpers, and tons of stuff I have forgotten about. My current project is a firewood processor. My intent is to purchase my firewood in log lenghts and use the processor to saw up the logs and split them into firewood size pieces. I will be building this processor from salvaged parts and probably wont have it working until next year sometime. So far i have been able to find most of the needed parts for little to no cost. I purchased a 6 1/2 inch bore 32 inch stroke hydraulic cylinder and I beam for $75. I already had a 25hp Kholer engine and control valve, as well as a couple of Hydraulic pumps to choose from. I have a bunch of steel I salvage from a metal building for framework. The big ticket items will be building the hydraulic chainsaw, and the conveyor to feed the logs into the processor.

Well I have been off the forum for a while but I am back to share part of my summer fun. Got going with my welder and making yard art. It has become a little side business with steady orders. I had a sign made and my business cards are coming. Had no idea it would take off. Now I need more time to get it all done. Here are pieces that I have made and sold. I enjoy junking (finding old metal to make into something else) as much as the actual making of the pieces. https://www.backyardchickens.com/g/a/5979233/default/ Enjoy. [IMG]

Okay I am back after a long absence with more art. It has been crazy how well it has been going. I started a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CindysShedArt and am trying to get a web page going. But that is going very slow. I continue to have steady orders with one recently being bought by my vet's office manager and placed as a center piece in their newly renovated building/landscaping. I will be uploading my current pics. You can also go to the face book page. I have to say I love junking as much as the making. I have met some neat people.
