ok, so YES I know that it's not a major accomplishment, but hey, a girl has gotta have a victory in the world we live in. These guys are destined for dinner, so I don't get the eggs much longer but I like having turkey eggs. I'd like to start a midget white flock so that I can keep turkeys year round, but since Steve won't ship babies, I am going to have to get them from Ideal next year. Hatching eggs at 6800 ft ain't happening! Well, at least not for me. Anyway, for the next little while we get to eat turkey eggs. Yea!

Hey, I'm at 6800 feet in Colorado!!! Anyway, congrats on the eggs and just wanted you to know that I got hatching eggs from Steve back when I had the old styrofoam incubator and I still hatched a couple of Midgets. Now that I have the kick-ass Sportsman incubator I've hatched several batches of shipped eggs with up to 90% hatch rate so I'm getting more eggs from Steve in the spring.

OOOHHH! You have MW turkey eggs?!?!?!?! Excellent! I'll be chatting with you in the spring when my first broody arrives! I just never seem to have any luck with the incubator. I play with next spring when I get my Barnevelders laying, but not on mailed eggs if I can avoid it. I mean, I did get Barny eggs to hatch, but it was not easy. Anyway...it's good to know that someone around here has some MW's!

Oh yes, I have some very nice Midgets. My Tom is from Steve and everyone who sees him raves about what a beautiful bird he is and it appears that he passes his good looks and easy demeanor on to his babies because I don't have a single one that's not pretty darn close to perfect.

One of our BBW's is laying too. Her first couple were soft and bounced when I tossed them. The dogs thought they were balls. We haven't eaten any yet, how do they taste?

well, they taste like......EGGS!!!

frankly, in the pan you can't tell the difference.

I do think they are very cool. I just want to be able to keep some and not have to put them all in the freezer.

A friend of mine who has turkeys every year for the fair said they taste really bland. Not like chicken eggs. I wouldn't think there would be much of a difference.

I dunno Terri, they seem the same to me. Maybe the difference is in the feed. My turkeys are fed Embudo Valley's mix that they feed their turkeys, alfalfa, milk, sprouted grains and garden stuff. This pretty darn closely parallels what all my birds are fed, so it doesn't surprise me that they all taste the same.

On a side note...did you get hit by that big storm tonight? There was so much lightening here that I was afraid that the turkeys would get deep fried, so I put them in my mud room.

We had huge hail, high winds and, like I said, amazing amounts of lightening. I don't often worry about the turkeys...I've seen them sit out in torrential rain when they could be under shelter, but lightening...not likely they would survive.

edited to say, if you're around the ABQ metro area anytime soon I'd be happy to give you some to try out....

Were down in Deming. We were at a gymkhana last night while you got pounded. It started lightening but we didn't get any of what y'all got. It looks like it's going to storm tonight though. Figures. I'm going to have to take my CDL driving test in the morning on wet roads. Oh well....
