    Hi All,

We've got a hen that hatched out 11 chicks, and we're thinking of trying to graft on some other chicks. A local feed store is selling some day old chicks next week. There will be a 6 day difference between the chicks the hen has now and the ones we're going to get.

Any tips on how we could make this work?

Everything I've read so far is about grafting chicks onto a hen that's been sitting on rocks or plastic eggs. I'm also not sure if the 6 day difference in age is going to throw everything off.

What can I say, I'm a risk taker :) I wanted to give it a shot!

I'd do the same as if you were replacing dummy eggs -- add them to the group after she settles for the night and be prepared to take them to a brooder first thing in the morning if she doesn't accept them.
