No. mostly back and side.

My husband was sent home with that apparatus. Open heart surgery. They cut him open all the way down the front, practically. Took his heart out. Put him on a machine that pumped his blood. Worked on his heart. Mitral Valve. He was lucky he had enough skin to work with otherwise he would have had pig skin to repair it. Put his heart back in. Had to hold a pillow tight while he breathed into that thing. I had one sent home with me too once. I've had so many surgeries I don't remember which one.

The device is called an incentive spirometer. It measures how well you inhale air and helps you breath deeply. The more you do it the better your lungs expand and the less likely you are to get pneumonia. Any one who is in bed for an extended period of time needs to use it.
