Yesterday I took pups to vet, so to simplify things I penned adult dogs in garage. After getting back, penning pups back up, I walked back to house. On the way I saw a Gray Fox trotting along road on far side of chicken pens in orchard. The fox the went across the road apparently without being aware of me. I ran to house and released dogs and the promptly ran over to where fox was walking and tried to line it out which they did. The dogs bunched up, fluffed up, holding tails up as they ran tightly as a group along path the fox took. With Red Fox there is no bunching up. Also, I cannot smell the Gray Fox like I can the Red Fox after such a recent passage.

This first time I actually saw a Gray Fox during day on my property.

@centrarchid, what is the significance of the dogs bunching up? Does this mean they are more afraid of a gray fox than a red, and there is strength in numbers? Is a gray bigger than a red, or more fierce?
