Gray jungle fowl

    Here is a gray jungle fowl I hatch this year when it hatch it was darker than any I have ever hatched and I have been raising them for years. I have talk to several other breeders and they said they have never seen one this dark and think it a dark color mutation.

    How well do such coop raised birds adapt to a free range setting? Will they stay around or drift off like pheasant?

    I see melanism fairly frequently in other species. Pictured bird does not appear melanistic, rather it appears to lack brown-red coloration with the gray base color remaining same.
