This is the greatest site, I wish it'd been around back in the day when I couldn't find anyone to ask questions about my chickens. Ended up loosing them to a mountain lion back in Calif. that kind of kept me from trying again. Now 20 years later I live in an area southwest of Phoenix called Rainbow Valley and have started building a new coup and run. Plans are to have a dozen or so and I have been reading all the stuff on here to see what I should do and how to do it, I really liked the feeder made from 3" pipe and the insight into how to care for the birds. I know I've learned alot and will learn more. I just want to say thanks to all of you that both post the question and those that awnser them. Now I just need to figure out what kind of girl and from whom will I go to find them. I do have a question, which is better for the girls, straw or hay? this would be for the floor and the boxes. Seems like there's alot of options, sand, shavings, straw and hay. thanks
I don't think there would be a big difference between hay and straw but I know that dirt is good because you don't have to clean it as often...
and from PA! I use hay for all bedding since it seems warmer in our cold winters here. I'm sure you can use whatever you'd like!
