green beans, blackeyed peas???

Fresh are great, although I find my chickens prefer their green beans parboiled unless they're real small.

Dried, i.e. the dried bean seeds like you would plant or make soup out of, should probably be boiled a while first to be safe -- they contain varying amounts of toxins and anti-nutritional factors that in excessive amounts (which varies among types of beans - red kidney beans are the worst) can cause problems. Although, pea-type legumes fed dry/raw in modest amounts don't seem to actually be a problem in most cases.

Have fun,

Pat

this is not going to make up a large part of the ration or anything, just the culls, we put up 32 feet of trellis today for the pole beans!!

I feed my chickens canned corn and peas, but they HATE green beans. Will eat them if there is nothing else, but they give me the stink eye and act as if I am trying to poison them.

They also hate celery, raw or cooked.
