    Hello everyone,

Just getting started, I just finished the coop, made a sign, now I need some chickens. From what I've been reading the Ameraucana and the Silver Laced Wyandottes seem to be great birds. Am I choosing the right breed for friendly and good
    layers?

    Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congratulations on your new coop! I don't have experience myself of those breeds, I started out with red sex-link hens that were excellent egg layers quite friendly and an easy bird to start with. But still lots of fun raising them.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your choice. Be sure to ask any question you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly. Enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC! [IMG]I'm glad you joined us.

I've kept Wyandottes, and I would definitely recommend them. Mine have been very good layers (250+ egg each per year), very docile and personable, and hardy through below 0 temperatures and 100 degree heat. They are my favorite breed.[IMG] I've also had an Ameraucana (actually, the more common "Easter Egger"), and she's also been a good layer and docile.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. Ameraucanas (or Easter Eggers) and Wyandottes are generally docile breeds and good layers. I think you will be happy with them. Other standard breeds that have a well deserved reputation for being calm and gentle and good layers include Australorps (excellent layers), Orpingtons, Brahmas, Sussex, and Faverolles. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Whatever breeds you decide to get, good luck with your flock.
