Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. My wife and I visited Ireland for our 37th wedding anniversary and loved your beautiful countryside. I'm sorry you're having the fox problem. There is a good article at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardenin...How-to-protect-your-hens-from-sly-Mr-Fox.html on protecting your hens from foxes. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

I would not recommend keeping Silkies with standard sized breeds or they will likely take a beating. I used to raise Black Silkies and they were sweet, gentle, friendly, and funny little birds, but the only standard size breed we could safely keep them with were our Polish (which are usually at the bottom of the pecking order in a standard sized flock).

Welcome to Backyard chickens. You may also want to check out the predator thread - are you allowed to use electrified fencing ? This could help steer you fox to some other chicken farm
