We are new to the site and to raising chickens since April-2011.

We have 6 New-Hampshire Red hens, raised from chicks we acquired from Tractor-Supply. What a rewarding and entertaining experience!

Some of the "ladies" have been laying since Labor-day weekend. We get 1 to 3 eggs a day now. We have an early layer, and mid-morning layers.

The hens are being relatively "free-ranged" in our backyard. They have a large fenced in area that allows them access to the garden, fruit trees, some of the berry bushes,
and the compost pile.

My wife and I have been married 26 years and are parents to an adult son, 3 senior-citizen dogs (9, 10, & 15), and now 6 young hens. It's usually pretty busy between daily activities and interactions with the critters.

I work as a systems-programmer and Mrs. is our home keeper. We both enjoy her gardening, self-sufficiency, cooking, movies, reading. I'm a techy (systems programmer and build custom personal computers), enjoy fishing, hunting, and cooking.
Mrs. is the REAL gardener, bakes, cans, grows various herbs, does flower arranging, sewing, crochet.

Incidently, "Gickelvolk" is German slang for "Chicken People"....

Thanks for the "Greets"!

Great site!

This site has been my goto site when I'm seeking info on something related to our hens.
I've been a "Lurker" for a couple of months and decided it's time to join today.

Mrs. & I are looking forward to contribute more as we learn more.
