Brand new to the whole chicken scene, but SO EXCITED! We got 6 Rhode Island Reds and 6 Barred Plymouth Rocks as little baby chicks this spring, and they are expected to start laying eggs sometime August-ish.

Our neighbors have 15 reds, and we have them all together in the coop (they have an outside part, plus they come out into the yard most days).

Our family has young children who are LOVING the chickens - so interesting to go talk to them and take them treats, LOL.

Glad to find this place, as we're hoping to learn more about them, and improve and expand our care. Will be interested to find tips / tricks for over-wintering in New England, too.

Welcome!! Nice that you have great neighbors and share the coop with them. You are on a great adventure with your family so enjoy

Oh, you are in NH, too! My 5 year old son is hoping to learn how to show a chicken at a local fair - he is going to look this year and pay attention, and maybe show one next year. He is very attached to the chickens.

My dog is afraid of them, though.
