Brand new to the whole chicken scene, but SO EXCITED! We got 6 Rhode Island Reds and 6 Barred Plymouth Rocks as little baby chicks this spring, and they are expected to start laying eggs sometime August-ish. Our neighbors have 15 reds, and we have them all together in the coop (they have an outside part, plus they come out into the yard most days). Our family has young children who are LOVING the chickens - so interesting to go talk to them and take them treats, LOL. Glad to find this place, as we're hoping to learn more about them, and improve and expand our care. Will be interested to find tips / tricks for over-wintering in New England, too.
