Love this website -- have used it many times as we started our journey into chicken ownership last spring.

We live in the lovely Willamette Valley in Oregon and currently own five laying hens (1 Black Star, 2 New Hampshire Reds, 1 Black Orpington, and 1 Blue Orpington).

We have raised and processed 19 White Plymouth Rocks as meat birds this past fall. And though our yield was a little less than we'd prefer, we will continue to search for a suitable heritage breed meat bird this next year when we plan to try some Light Brahmas, White Giants, and White Orpingtons.

(We also plan to add some more hens that the kids picked out of the McMurray catalog - 1 Ameraucana, 1 Cuckoo Maran, and 1 Brown Leghorn)

Hi, welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you've got a lovely little flock!
McMurray is a great hatchery, and the breeds your kids picked out are great.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have some great breeds. Black Stars (Black Sex Links) are my personal favorites as they are very friendly and hardy laying machines. You should get loads of large brown eggs from that girl.) If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is lots of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined the flock! I've yet to have experience with McMurray but I've heard great things about them.

Hi and a warm welcome to BYC- great to have you onboard with us. Good to hear that chicken maths is alive and kicking :D

Best wishes
