Hi! I am new to this community, and researching backyard chickens. My husband and I have been talking about getting hens for a few years now, and we are getting ready to make the leap in the next few months. For now I am reading about how to best prepare and care for hens in our backyard. We will involve our 6 year old in the care of the hens too.

Welcome to BYC, Tracy. Glad you decided to join our flock. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is lots of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your flock.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I guess in California every season is good. Here we get a long winter and sometimes skip spring completely

Raising poultry is a great hobby for the entire family...kids and chickens seem to naturally go together.

If you have questions, always feel free to ask. We were all new at some point and there are a lot of helpful members here.

    Good luck to you!
