Thank you for letting me join the BYC Forum :)
I grew up in the middle of the city but my father had a veggie patch, a few orange & grapefruit trees plus chickens & rabbits, dogs, budgies, finches, tropical fish & hamsters [IMG] so I guess my hankering for fowls started way back then.

My wife recently allowed me to have 4 hens ( August 2014) and I built the coop out of reclaimed pallets and shaped it to fit into our garden. The ladies have a house 1.5 sq yrds and additional laying bays.
I started with Venda & Auracana hens. Within a couple of days, my wife was in love with the hens & the 4 Boschvelder hens arrived.

3 of teh hens went broody so I slipped some fertilized Heritage RIR eggs under them & hatched out 12 chicks. So that meant another run & house [IMG]Im looking to add a few Barred Rocks & Buff Orpingtons as its important to have asthetically pleasing ladies.

I am a Urban farmer with the whole garden basically under veggie beds, irrigating using rainwater held in my tanks so the chickens fit in perfectly. I've been farming commercially all my life. My wife & I live at the coast with our 5 kids - 18yr old daughter, 17yr old son, 16yr old son, 14yr old daughter & 13yr old son. We have 5 cats & two kittens, goldfish & tropical fish.

Thank you for letting me join !!!!!
