I've had 4 Rhode Island Reds since they were a week old. We.got them because my husband wanted eggs and my son wanted a pet. To be honest i wasn"t too excited about chickens, but from the moment they arrived they became my babies. Its been a little over a month and someone complained to the HOA that we were breaking rules. It was our fault, we read the city rules but not the HOA rules. We gave away our 5 week old babies today and i can't seem to stop crying. Its hurting so badly. I feel as if i let them down. The family that took them are very nice but their coop is pretty small and they must have around 20 chicks in them. I feel totally helpless.

HOA's sound positively awful. Look at your rules and see what you are allowed to keep. Apparently farm animals are out. Getting some pet to replace your lost chickens will not replace the chickens, but maybe you can fill the hole your chickens left.

Hi and sorry to hear of your ordeal. Hopefully you can find other pets that the HOA does allow.

    Best wishes
