One of my girls has been laying eggs with grit or maybe pieces of eggs inside. Has anyone experienced this and maybe know what causes this?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! From what you have described I would say your hen is laying eggs with calcium deposits on them. Here is a great article ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/common-egg-quality-problems
#8 covers calcium deposits.

Be sure to ask any more questions that you may have, everyone here to help.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome!

Is the grit or shell on the INDISE of her egg or on the outer shell?

me for not reading right! Could you post a pic? Are they like pieces of blood?

i'm new too, I may have read it wrong.

I'm jump around and try to read as much as possible so I can learn, in case I run into any problems.

I love this site!

I have the same issue - egg shell inside the white of the egg - not fun to bite into! The outside has the calcification spots, which I don't mind, but this is a bummer coming from my most reliable (and oldest - 4ish) hen.
