I went to the feed store this morning because our chickens were out of chick starter and since our rooster was crowing and our hens were squatting I thought it was time to move on to the next feed level. When I went to the feed store you have to ask for your feed at the desk and I just told her I needed whatever came after chick starter (my mistake) and when I got home I realized I had grower/finisher, is this okay for laying hens? Or is this intended specifically for meaties? And should I be buying them chicken scratch?

Thanks for any help, just want to make sure our birds aren't eating the wrong food.!

chicken scratch is a treat, not a food...give sparsely...

All I have read is that this feed is for growing them larger, for culling...I would return it and get layer feed, or flock raiser, with oyster shell on the side for the girls.

I am dealing with a mixed flock as well, I am still on Starter/Grower with oyster shell for my laying hens...I could be wrong though..I am kinds new to this
