Hello everyone. I'm new to this chicken keeping thing and really enjoying it thus far. Trying to determine if my 12-week old Buff Orpington is a cockerel and thought I'd solicit some experienced chicken keeper's opinions.

    Here are a few photos...

The dark gold color, huge legs, and the amount of red in the face/comb/wattles at only 12 weeks make me think roo.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I don't think the neighbors will be happy, but we have some friends that can put him to good use. Thank you for your reply!

I agree with Cafarmgirl, "it" looks like a possible rooster.

I am in central North Carolina. Wish I could pass him along to someone who could use him.

How did this turn out?? My Buff Orpingtons are 11 weeks and I'm obsessively trying to figure out what they are. I'd love to know if yours was a boy or girl after all!

It turned out to be a roo! We found a nice home for him on a local farm. :)
