    My four gunieas are 6 months old. While working Sunday the 15th on horse corrals? we noticed one of the hens sitting by a fence panel...I thought it a strange place to lay an egg? but I have seen the geese and turkeys go broody in weird places, and have never had guinea hens before....so...we kept working. The sun came around....she kept sitting...I go to get her water..marveling at the dedication to her egg....get back to her...then see she is caught. Leg snapped in two just below the knee joint about and inch down...hanging on by a little thread of muscle. We gather her up...she can really bite... put my hand over her eyes...take her in the house thinking I gotta cull her.....but we get the medical stuff out...husband cuts the leg free..clean it..bandage it...give her a shot of penn in the breast...put her in an isolation pen. Bandage falls off as soon as I put her down. Put water soluble antibiotic in her water. We figure the shock will take her out by morning. Today...10 days after we cut the leg free.... she is using the stump..is infection free...calls out for the others...eats...drinks and is maintaining herself. I am planning on turning her out tomorrow morning and wonder what you all think. Resiliant birds. The bone is exposed...the flesh appears to be reattaching? but right now the bone is exposed....[IMG] BTW..this pic is supposed to over there by the name like you guys all have? but...it landed here. Sorry. :}

    Thanks....she is amazing really. I let her out this morning. She'll either sink or swim now...but she seems much happier being with the buddies....she paced and paced back and forth at night, wanting to be in the main pen to roost....that could be interesting for her....trying to roost with one foot. A hidden camera out ther with night vision would be great!!

    Sunny side up :)
    I hope she is okay. Please post updates on how she does. It is really amazing how chickens and guineas can heal!!

    Sunday morning the guniea who lost her foot was just gone. I searched for feathers, I have a dog and four geese who are out at night for predation issues....not a trace. Saturday evening she was here....eating bread with the rest of the flock...Sunday morning..poof! Just gone. No feather pile, no carcass...nothing. I suspect one day we will move a piece of equipment and will find her remains....she lasted longer than we thought....
