Help! I'm new at this... one of the chickens I received seems to have conjunctivitis of some sort. Her eyes are gummy and gross. What do I do?

Conjunctivitis can be a symptom of a chronic respiratory disease such a s MG, coryza, or ILT. These diseases can make carriers of your flock, so testing by your state vet might be something you would want to do. Is there a bad odor about the head that might be a symptom of coryza? Antibiotics such as Tylan 50 may treat symptoms, but not cure the diseases permanently. Here is a list of common diseases to read about, and a link to finding your state vet: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

Any feed store should have it in the cattle medicines. Tylan50 is injectable--it is best given as a shot into the breast muscle daily for 5 days. 1/4 ml for bantams, 1/2 ml for up to 5 lb, and 1 ml for over 5 lb. Use a 25 gauge, 5/8th inch needle. Some do give it orally, but it works best injectable.
