I've listened to a few hens on youtube singing the egg song, but they didn't prepare me for my white leghorn. This Saturday I was outside moving some dirt around when I saw her making her way to the coop (and the nest boxes). After a while I heard this eruption of noise coming from the box. Sure enough, it was her announcing to everyone in southern arizona that she'd just laid an egg. Only her bak bak bak bak BAKOK, didn't match her tiny size. SHE LITERALLY MADE MY WINDOWS SHAKE! Even the rooster looked startled. He bellowed back his response and took off towards the coop answering each of her bakoks with his own smaller bakok. And the coolest sight, he escorted her back to the wild birdseed block where she tore into it.
