Hairless chicken

Hi Everyone....

I have a 1 year old bantam cochin frizzle that molted 2 months ago and still has not gotten any new feathers back...she is almost completely hairless. It's been unusually cold here in PA the last few weeks and I'm very worried about her!

How long does it take for the new feathers to come in??

I wonder if you might have a frazzle . I was told to up their protein. My frizzle looked like that when she molted but her feathers grew back in , in just a few weeks.

That is definitely a frazzle. My avatar is a frizzle. Yours will always have thin feathers that break off easily. My one frazzle I had a few years ago spent the summer mostly bald and red from the sun. It's what happens when you breed frizzle to frizzle.

How is she now? Has it warmed enough in your area for her to be safe? I have featherless chickens and make them winter clothes from human sweaters. Depending on her size you could probably use a human sleeve.

Thought maybe your spellchecks were throwing off frizzle and frazzle. But I see it twice. What's the difference between a frizzle and a frazzle?


And I would (no experience or knowledge in this..)
probably up the protein, chopped hard boiled eggs, ground cooked fish, meat, etc... BOSS some think is a good source but if in shell comes with a cost, tons of non edible fiber.

A frizzle has one copy of the frizzle gene and is normally feathered with curly feathers. A frazzle has 2 copies of the frizzle gene, thus it has brittle messed up feathers. Never breed frizzle to frizzle.

She is still bald. I'm worried about the winter. I can't knit. I have upped her protein and feed her eggs with shells too for more protein.
