I noticed today that my cochin roo, Spencer Tracy's eye was shut and he had some dried blood on his comb. I examined his eye, read about possible reasons on BYC but I don't think it's contagious, after I looked a little more carefully, underneath the eye looks bruised. thank goodness it's not his "good" eye! Anyway, I went to CVS, got saline solution eye wash and Neosporin (no pain reliever in it) and applied both. I have him in a crate in the house. Does anyone think it's safe to put him back in the coop (with 12 others, 11 hens, one other roo but they grew up together and the other roo, Sidney, usually protects Spencer. I don't think Sidney attacked Spencer, more than likely it was one of those nasty RIR's). Or should I keep him quiet and in the house in the crate for tonight? He seems to feel all right, he's drinking water and preening.
