So, this is a feedstore chick, supposed to be a barred rock, but didn't turn out to be! He/she is about two months old, and a mystery on both breed and gender, though I'm starting to think it's a rooster but hoping not. Feathered feet, pink but small comb, kinda laced feathers, orange/black feet...maybe a mutt! Any input or thoughts on what breed and gender would be much appreciated! Thank you!

It's definitely not a Barred Rock. It's a mixed breed cockerel, perhaps an Easter Egger.

Not a dark brahma? And I have a feeling it's a rooster too but what makes you say that? Just trying to learn, thanks !

Maybe a very poor quality Dark Brahma? It definitely does look like a cockerel.

Several things; the lack of a clean pea comb, the lack of profuse silver feathers on the back and neck, and the very sparse feathering on the legs. I think a Dark Brahma was used in its breeding, but it's a mixed breed. Below are some pics of pure Dark Brahma roosters for comparison.

If the hatchery intentionally sold this bird as a Dark Brahma, it has to be one of the worst quality hatchery birds I've ever seen.)

It was sold as a barred rock. Just been googling feather footed two month old breeds and dark brahma was the closest I could find . Seems the consensus is mixed breed roo. He's a sweet little guy, whatever he is!

Actually, according to your post, the feed store sold it as a Barred Rock but the feed store buys their birds from a hatchery. Who knows what the hatchery sold it as? The mislabeling could have been the fault of the feed store rather than the hatchery.
