I've gone a little chicken crazy- started out 2 years ago with 11 asst. day old chicks incliding Barred plymouth Rocks, Dominique, Ameraucanas, bantam cochin frizzles and one "mutt" hen. Out of 11, only one frizzle was a roo and he is a pretty gentle soul. We lost two of the bantams, one fairly young to some unknown ailment and one froze to death during a cold spell last winter. We lost one of our Ameraucana hens a couple of months ago-- she just disappeared from the yard so I assume a predator of some kind got her. We have enjoyed our little flock so much that we have added a second coop and fenced yard for bantams (yard art as I've heard them called). I now have 2 silkies, 2 belgian d'uccle, 4 dutch, and 2 old english game chicks that are almost 7 weeks old and will be ready to be moved to their outside coop this coming weekend. I am also adding 2 polish, 2 minorcas and 3 wyandottes -- they are 10 days old and still under the heat lamp. They will go in with the established flock. Think I may have 4 or 5 roos out of the 10 bantams which is a bummer-- they were all sold as straight run. No one is crowing yet so nothing is definite. We round our little family out with 8 dogs and 2 parrots. Love my critters!
