I am curious as to how well started birds handle shipping. Has anyone here gone through this experience? If so, please share. I don't particularly care for the idea but to get what I want I think I am going to have to go that route.

The regulations for shipping adult birds are much stricter, which is why I suspect it isn't done as often. I feel like maybe shipping adult birds across state lines is an issue as well.

The requirements are the same for adults as for chicks and eggs, in most cases. The cost is the main reason why it isn't done more, though it's actually pretty common with show birds. I shipped a pair of show bantams from Maryland to Indiana (about a 12 hour drive direct). The box was $15 and the shipping was $55.

I've had two sets of eight-to-16 week birds sent to me. One set all did fine (four birds) and the second set had one of three DOA. They were from the same breeder, but it was in May, so maybe too hot. The other ones came in October, which is nice here.
