Has anyone shipped chickens to new owners?

I have three gorgeous 4-month old Showgirl roos that I can't keep, and I'm thinking of offering them to folks out of the area, since there has been no interest on the local chicken boards. My guys are gorgeous, and would make great breeding stock, but there are limits on what we can have in my location, and they're at an age where they will have to go Really Soon. I want to find good homes for them. I know that you can ship them, but I don't know how. But before I go that route, I need to find out a few things.

My question is this: has anyone here shipped chickens to anyone? What service did you use? How did you package them? I mean, are there special shipping containers for live chickens? I've gotten chicks in the mail, but a larger chicken is a new idea to me. Do you package them with some special food and water containers? How big a container?

If anyone has done this and would like to give advice, I'd like to pick your brains.
