Has my BA been playing with hair dye????

I have a BA that just turned 11 weeks old today. I ordered him from MPC. Not only was he supposed to be a she, but he has developed red feathers. I understand that him turning out to be a roo was a possibility, and I am fine with it, but I know that red is not in the BA color scheme. I am wondering if his coloring is just a result of hatchery genetics, or is it possible he could be mixed? The pics below are of Spunky, the roo. I also put in a pic of the other BA I got from MPC, Venus,a pullet, that is turning out beautifully. (oh, and Peach, my White Rock checking out her toes) [IMG]

I am going with L'Oreal's Ferria in Crushed Garnet.

It's possible I think that colors can leak. Colors that are used to make blues and splashes can leak through. I have some reddish feathers on my Splash Cochin roo, and a single black feather on my White Cochin roo.

Too funny! China Mom is right, sometimes the colors bleed with breeding....

Sorry if this sounds naive, but how is it that red would be in the color genes? and how is it that the color bleeds?

I am confused. You said these are BA. BA is Black Australorps. BA's are completely black with a green sheen. I don't know what these are but they are not BA. [IMG] I am surprised no one else has brought this up.

I like the coloring of these, especially the pullet in the middle.

That looks more like a splash something or other, not a black anything.
