Hatched egg halves under broody glued to other eggs

So it happened twice and I'm wondering if this is something I should have known to look out for? An unhatched egg settled into the leftover half of a hatched egg so the extra half was basically glued on when the membrane dried out. I didn't notice which end it had adhered to, just cracked it off. I suppose it wouldn't have been a problem if it was the small end, but what if I weren't such a meddler? I can just imagine that poor chick expending all it's energy pipping only to find another layer!

Gotta say. This is my first time hatching and boy am I learning a lot that I wasn't able to research ahead of time!
