Want to show off my Rio Grande poults that hatched out two days ago. But first the backstory.

Three weeks ago the game warden called me and said “today is your day”

A farmer 30 miles away was swathing a wheat field and accidentally ran over a nesting hen. When he realized what had happened he checked his windrows and found the nest. Two eggs were broken, seven were intact. He called the game warden. Game warden contacted me.

That day after work I met up with the farmer. Candled the eggs, then brought them home and began incubating them.

Two days ago they all hatched out. 100% hatch.

Here are some pics of my Rio babies.

cute babies! how come the game warden called you? do you work for a wildlife rescue?
No. I don’t work for any game rescue. But I am a nuisance wildlife control operator (state trapper) through the states wildlife department.

I ran into the game warden a couple months back and asked him to call me if he ever came across any orphaned poults or eggs.

He said he would and he came through
