    With the girls!
I had my broody hen hatching an egg. I originally had 3 but only 1 was fertile. Today was day 20 and this morning I saw the pup hole and could hear the cheek peeping from inside the egg. I was so excited for the hatch. Today I went away for a few hours and left my broody hen, her soon to hatch egg, and 12 2 1/2 month old chicks in with her. I was away for about 6 hours. I was so excited to see the egg's progress when I got back. The second I got home, I raced to the coop. I lifted up my broody hen and... no egg. I panicked and searched the entire coop. I found half of the chicks shell on the very opposite side of the coop. The chick was no where to be found. I was absolutely devastated. My guess is that one of the chicks ate it? Any thoughts/theories? I'm extremely sad.

If you found the shell at the other end of the coop it does sound like another chicken made off with it. I'm sure you searched high and low for the baby chick. Really sorry. :hugs

Thanks so much! Do I have a chance at trying to hatch again or will my hen not stay broody?
