Have you ever had a factory hen go broody?

In February, my Uncle picked up a hen that fell off of a Tyson truck near him. He brought it to me, but its not the first I have ever had. I have also had a Cornish Cross. The first Tyson hen died at six months of age, the cornish cross at eight months.

Today, my Tyson chicken went missing. I figured either a predator got her, or she died while out ranging today. Me and my mom got a flashlight and went looking for her. Surprise! She had gone broody on about eight eggs, which she laid!

When we got her, she was smaller than the first tyson hen, barely bigger than any normal sized hen. She has put on some heft, but she isn't anywhere near as big as the first one yet. I was thinking maybe she was one of their layer stock, but if she was, would she still be hefty? Can the meat stock ever grow enough to lay and set? I didn't think so, but now I don't know.

The father of the eggs will be a barred rock.

How exciting for you. I have never had a factory hen, but I am sure that every once in awhile they do (look at yours

Cannot wait to see pictures of the babies.
