My first eggs came on the Jan 1, 2008, it felt like forever.
I never gave this a thought, how about you?

I was standing over the frying pan anticipating my morning eggs when I took a really good look: at the egg. It dawned on me that that little egg came from a living being. It was very small, only 48 grams because it is her first.
What I am getting at, and this you ladies will get a kick out of. 48 grams is about 1 1/2 ounce and mom weighs about 5 lbs. We weigh about 125 give or take, and our babies weigh 7 lbs. give or take. Imagine growing a baby in our bodies every day, or every other day: that is what our gals do.
No labor pains, no recuperation and no moaing and groaning. They just do it, they make us a perfectly formed seed of life. No it is not alive but I could be. My point is not that it s a whole living being, but just think about the mass that is delivered every day. In proportion it is almost like us delivering a baby every day or so. The idea of producing a perfect food source of such magnitutude for us and in exreme numbers is beyond comprehension.

Any thoughts? I would love to hear them.

[IMG] If I was producing "babies" every day - I'd be hoping someone would come by and eat em ! [IMG]

Reminds me - I need to run out and check for eggs, I hate it when someone else gets there first!

I admire each egg I collect, each one has its own marvelous beauty. Once, I picked up one of my blue Jersey Giant eggs and held it near my huge, black JG rooster (his head is bigger than the egg) and thought it was so amazing how he was once small enough to fit into an egg that size. Wow!!!

I think the hens get the short end of the stick. I'd rather be hatched a roo now that you made me think about it like that. [IMG]

Congrats on your frst egg~it is one if the best fellings in the world to look down and see something you, in a small way, had a hand in creating.~~~~~They are awesome, a thing if beauty and a wonder of all wonders.

But I don't think I would like to be born A Roo, imagine this: as soon as you just start to have fun and voicing (crowing) your opinion or just being happy that you are in a pen with all those little ladies, they decide to cut off your head [IMG]
unless you are lucky enough to find yourself on a farm~~~~~ I opt for laying eggs
