I'm beginning to wonder if this beautiful guy will every have a tail! his butt has been rounded since he hatched and I dont see many feathers sticking out under there! he's 20 weeks old and crowing now. Any ideas?

Pull the feathers away back there and look to see if maybe the feathers have been plucked out, chewed off or not there at all. If there is no signs of damage, he may be tailless.

He's a Mottled English Orpington? From a breeder? He *should* have a tail. They don't seem to produce super long sickle and tail feathers, but the breed shouldn't be rumpless if it's purebred.

The tail feathers are the last to grow since they don't lose them in juvenile molts. So I bet he'll get them soon and will fill out something like these:

yes, he's black mottled orpington from a breeder. All of the boys the breeder has have large gorgeous tails, Absolutely stunning birds. He has not had any "tail" since he hatched. I'm hoping his are just developing slowly.:fl My chocolate silver laced orpington roo has always had "some" tail feathers, and his are showing nicely already. They are the same age, 20 weeks.Same breeder.
