Hello,

I just wanted to share my story and experience. My 5 month old Americauna got bullied so badly by my 10 month old flock. As you can see they severely injured her head. I brought her to an ER where they partially sowed her up and gave be antibiotics and pain meds. They gave me a 50/50 chance of survival. After 3 days i went back to them for a scheduled checkup where i was stunned at what they told me. They told me she wasn’t herself and that i should probably put her down or perhaps spend more money to see a specialist. This shocked me because, in my opinion, I thought she was healing nicely after 3 days. I scheduled a specialist appointment but not until a few weeks out. After 13 days, she’s mostly healed and back with her Americauna flock. Moral of the story, chickens are heartier than you think. This lil one survived and I’m happy that i saved her from dying early in her life. Not all ER vets are skilled in chicken knowledge. So you probably know more about chickens then they do. Thankfully she did what she had to do for my chicken which I’m grateful for. Trust your gut. ❤️

Next time save some money and just separate the bird and apply antibiotic ointment to the lesion. Such wounds heal, but take time as they heal from the outward - inwards. Most veterinarians, sadly, know little about fowl. Well done on saving her.
