Hey guys; we are just trying to find out what may be wrong with our chicken in our flock. She’s been up an down for months now an we have talked about putting her down but then when we discuss this she seems to pick up it’s like rotational health problems she’s okay for a few days then goes back to not being too well. We have given her probiotics an a healthy nutritional diet. She becomes lethargic an may lay around the yard and just eat an drink an rest an sometimes the flock will just lay with her other times she will just lay in the grass under a tree. She seems to be wobbly on her feet when she’s not feeling well but seems to disappear after a few days then comes back. Any help would be much appreciated. We just want to do what’s best for her but it’s hard when she’s normal then not seeming okay at all then back to normal with her health an problems. We have tried anti inflammatory natural products an it seems to help but she’s just very up an down with walking an general well being They eat a well balanced diet an organic foods an treats like mealworms Thanks in advance for all your help guys.

When was the last time she laid and egg? Have you inspected her closely for lice/mites? When was the last time you wormed her with a true wormer?
We are unsure of when she laid an egg last. We don’t think it’s been a while. Maybe a month or so but recently we had been receiving little eggs an wondered if that was her laying the little eggs as they are all older chickens. We have checked her all over with lice an mites an we also control the yard with lice an mite dust control once a week. We wormed her about 2 weeks ago but I’m not sure what brand it is sorry.

Check her crop early in the morning before she has any food or water to see if it is emptying overnight. Let us know what you find. Hens over 2 can suffer from various reproductive problems, infection, ascites, and cancer. Many times they can live for a year or two with a problem, and we only know what it was after death when a necropsy is done. Crop problems—impacted, sour, or pendulous crop are sometimes seen as well.
