Has anyone sucessfully tried wrapping a 3 or 5 gallon bucket with nipple drinkers underneath with heat tape for winter use. How did it work? I'm not interested in using aquarium heaters as they are to undependable for such cold. Thanks.
I had thought about heat tape, but I found a bucket heater/bird bath heater on amazon for a reasonable price. It only operates at temps from 35-45F. It worked really well last winter. Only time there was an issue was when the temps hung around 0. The water wasn't iced over at all, but the nipples did freeze up. Once the temps got up to 10-15F all was o.k.
