Just saying hello to everyone. Started raising chickens last summer and it has been a fun ride so far. Just hatched my first batch of chicks 2 days ago so right now I have a brooder full of babies. I do have some questions, but I'll go find the right forum for those. Anyway, great site, I look forward to posting and sharing some pics and stories.

Just seen the question "template" so I guess I'll fill it out........

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Pretty much. I got my first birds last summer (2008) and have
wanted to add more ever since.

    (2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Right now I have 3 roosters, 7 Rhode Island hens, and 20
brand new babies that are 2 days old!!

    (3) What breeds do you have?

Mostly Rhode Island Reds, to be honest I have some
that I'm not sure yet what they are yet. I could post
a pic or two and let you guys tell me.

    (4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

In search of Coop plans....I want a kick-butt chicken
coop so bad I can't stand it. Still gathering wood and
other materials....hope to have it done sometime before
    October.

    (5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Love playing guitar, big 80's music dork, have a small
    recording studio in my basement.

    (6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Married, been with my wife for 15 years. I have four
children. I have 2 dogs, 4 goats, 1 cat, 2 guinea pigs, and
somewhere in the house...there's a fish too.

I saw a post the other day about a poultry show in Newport, TN - Cocke County on May 2. That would be great fun to go to.

Thats not too far from me actually. But, I'll have to be honest...I'm really new at this chicken thing. Learning my breeds right now, and just hatched some new babies the day before yesterday. I love the birds, but I really don't know a whole lot yet.

Then that is the perfect place for you to go! You will see all different breeds of chickens, both bantam and standard size. In general most breeders and exhibitors are happy to talk to you about their birds. I was in awe the first time I went to a show. I was not showing a bird, just looking around. Does not cost anthing to get in and sometimes there are birds for sale as well. I met 2 people from TN (almost my brothers neighbors), that come to FL every year to show their birds. Small world!
