Hi, I’m a new chicken mom… I got Martha and her 8 sisters at TS in March. I was told they were 1 day old… so they should be 19 weeks today!! Are they? They are not laying yet…. I’m still feeding them starter. They are free range from 5am till 8pm then we lock them in the coop for the night….shouldn’t they being laying by now? Are they really 19 weeks?? Any help would be great… maybe I’m just being very impatient.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Love your photos! 💗 Most breeds start laying between 20 to 24 weeks, some hold off to 26 weeks. I see some big red combs and faces in your photos, those should be laying soon. Once one starts, I would get them all on layer feed. I know the waiting can kill you! :D

So they start laying after their combs get. Offer and redder? Also, they are all hens right? I’ve been looking at a lot of picture on this site and some people think they have hens but they are actually roosters…. How do I tell? Thank you so much for any information! And … Isa Browns??
ISA Browns are sex linked birds. None of the birds pictured are cockerels.
