I am new to the chicken world. I am currently building my own coop and my chicks will be delivered around the end of June. I have two questions. 1. What is the best type of heater to use for my coop? 2. What is the best type of electric fence to use?

If you are planning on brooding your chicks in the coop, then the "mama heating pad" thread - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/956958/mama-heating-pad-in-the-brooder-picture-heavy-update is probably the best place to begin. I'd suggest posting your question on electric fencing on the "coops and runs" forum.

Thank you CT for all the great suggestions. I am going to be brooding my chickens in my garage and then slowly adapt them to the out door weather. They will probably go into my coop towards the end of September. I have them coming in at the end of June!!! So very excited for this adventure.
