    Greetings and Felicitations!

I'm a husband of 20 years, and father to 2 beautiful daughters. I was born in California, raised in Arizona, but I've made my home in the hills of Tennessee for 23 years now. I'm not only new to this forum, but new to raising chickens as well. We just got our first hatchlings Friday. (Does it mean you've got the chicken bug if you buy an egg basket 2 weeks before you even have any chicks?) I just wish I could come up with a clever username. [IMG]

My DW, has asked me to build a coop, so I've been researching coop designs, functions, features, and other considerations in books, online, and now I'm scouring the BYC forum for tips, suggestions and advice! Now I'm a voracious reader, but it could take awhile to read through 250,000 posts. So any leads on threads to check out, or any advice at all, would be greatly appreciated. I know I'm going to build an 8 x 10 coop on a sled (for repositioning). Actually that's not set in stone either; originally we were going to build a 5 x 6 for 6 hens, then a 6 x 8 for 12 hens. Now, God help me, it looks like 8 x 10 for 20 hens. DW doesn't believe in doing anything small. [IMG] I'm looking at building a gable-type coop in the Lancaster/Quaker style. This forum has already been a Godsend for me.

I hope to get to know many of you soon.

    Sincerely,
    Richard B

[IMG] Welcome! You'll find this a great place! [IMG]
There's lots of coop designs you can find on here. [IMG]
    https://www.backyardchickens.com/coopdesigns.html or
    a thread with links:
    https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3472326#p3472326 or
    a whole forum:

I can also suggest you try places like [IMG] craigslist, freecycle.org or a Habitat for Humanity Restore [IMG] for lumber, windows, and other construction goodies. [IMG] Can save you a bundle, so maybe you can make the coop even bigger [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
