Hi, excited to be here at BYC! We don't have chickens yet, but we plan on getting some soon, and are working on building a coop. We would love to have your help, your ideas and experience!

Dan26552, my eggman has a mix of buffs and cochins, and he says they do really well in our climate and the cochin roosters do well with his young son. We're planning on buying a brood from him, and considering some Australorps.

Cochins are a very nice breed that I'm sure you'll enjoy. They're very hardy and quite docile, though not particularly good egg layers. Australorps would be another good choice- they have gentle temperaments and are excellent layers.
