Chirping
I have had chickens now for about a year. I started with 7 chickens; 6 hens and a rooster. Now I have 3 hens and 2 chicks, that are about 5 weeks old. Sadly, I lost a few hens to bobcat, the rooster killed 1, and my husband got rid of the rooster. As a kid, my family had chickens too. I love raising chickens! They are such fun, social, and smart animals. I find I often have questions, especially since I have broody hens and they are raising chicks, so I am glad I found BackYard Chickens. 
I live in California, in the foothills east of San Diego. I look forward to being able to retire and raise more chickens, as well as other farm animals in the future. Currently, in addition to chickens, I have boer goats, a pot belly pig, dogs, and cats. I am a public education teacher. I work with elementary age children with mild to moderate disabilities, their families, and their teachers.
