We're new to chickens and have started slow with two Buff Orpingtons - Priscilla and Edna! Two spoiled girls who have the run of our little back yard. We hadn't realized how loud they can be (in the morning) and are busy trying to come up with ideas to keep them quiet before we get a complaint. They are truly members of the family and we would be heartbroken if we had to give them up!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan [IMG]

For both peace and quiet and the safety of your birds at night, it would be better for them to be confined inside a coop for the night. Let them out when it is late enough to not disturb your neighbors.

    Hiya Laurahere

Mark n Angela, just up the road in Blaine. Welcome...I've not really been a busy poster. Rather, used BYC for information...But I did participate in the New Years Day hatch event.

Hope you have fun with your chickens, we have.

Thank you. Yes, we have a secure coop at night. We have tried to cover it up at night to block light but it hasn't made a difference. They go crazy in the morning, letting us know it's time to get up. Sounds like a flock of geese in the yard - I had no idea how noisy chickens could be!
